In August 2005, Dave Baker found himself, hours after Hurricane Katrina began lashing New Orleans, floating atop floodwaters on a giant, five-foot-wide piece of foam that had blown off the roof of the Superdome.
A copy editor for the storied Times-Picayune newspaper, Dave reached out and pulled up a stop sign to use as a makeshift paddle.
The night before, he had recruited and led a team of copy editors and news designers who worked by generator power in the Picayune’s “hurricane bunker” through the most stressful time of their professional lives. They and other seasoned journalists of the newspaper, who would go on to receive two Pulitzer Prizes for their efforts, were later hailed by writer/producer David Simon (The Wire, Treme) as performing “an amazing job both before and after the storm.”
After that harrowing experience, Dave moved to New York, going on to work for The New York Times as well as The Nation magazine.
In 2012, he struck out on his own and founded Super Copy Editors LLC. Dave’s sparkling vision: a one-of-a-kind, boutique editing service that provides individual attention to businesses seeking highly accurate proofreading and copy editing.
